Tutorial Šrae
This tut is basic but involved.. if you'd like to frame it or otherwise pretty it up - my suggestion is to do your embellishing on separate layers and merge them with the others when it's time.

Open the PCSnowballs font and minimize

Open the Snow Pattern at your PSP program and minimize

Open the Color Palette at PSP and keep to the side, at your workspace

Open the raeSnowman.psp layers at PSP
1. Highlight the 'Outline1' layer :
- Add a New Raster layer = named 'Outline2'
- Open Text Tool
- Foreground = Null .. Background = Blue *from your palette square
- Font 'PCSnowballs'
- Floating *see inside blue box, below, if you have a longer name
- Size = 100
- Kerning = 0
- Enter Text = All CAPS *the Caps snowballs have more personality
| For longer names.. choose Text = Create as Vector - keep the font Size at 100 .. adjust your text, using the side nodes
Adjust to your liking.. then Right Click at the Vector layer/LayerPalette ..'Convert to Raster' |
2. Highlight the 'Outline2' layer :
- Add a New Raster layer - named = 'Outline3'
- Text tool .. floating.. same color
- Change the Kerning to -25 *minus 25
- Choose 'Left' Alignment

- Click at the left edge - under the snowman
- Enter 'dashes' .. not 'underscores' so that they reach from the snowman to the end of your text
- Take your Eraser - set from Size 6 to 8
- Remove the bits between each.. don't break the outer lines
3. Highlight the 'Outline1' layer :
- Add a New Raster layer = named 'Fill1'

- Highlight the 'Outline2' layer
- Add a New Raster Layer = named 'Fill2'
your palette will look like this :
4. Highlight the 'Outline3' layer :
- Magic Wand outside the text
- Selections > Invert
- Highlight the 'Fill2' layer
- Flood Fill with the 'Snow' pattern
- Pattern Settings : Angle = 0 Scale = 100
- Select none

- Highlight the 'Outline2' layer
- Magic Wand outside the text
- Selections > Invert
- Highlight the 'Fill1' layer
- Flood Fill with the 'Snow' pattern
- Select none
5. Hang with me.. this will seem confusing.. just follow and trust me.. it will make sense *I hope!
- Highlight the 'Fill2' layer
- Add a New Raster = named 'cutout'
- Highlight the 'Fill2' layer
- Selections > Select All .. Selections > Float
- Highlight the 'cutout' layer
Apply this Cutout :
- Select None
-
- Highlight the 'Fill1' layer
- Selections > Select All .. Selections > Float
- Highlight the 'cutout' layer
- Apply the same Cutout effect
- Select None
6. Now get out your Airbrush with these settings = color White
- Choose a 'Fill' layer > Select All > Float
- Spray in some hilites'.. do it softly ..just enough to 'puff' out for a snowy look
'puffed' >>
don't be concerned for the snowball faces.. we'll cover those next
7. Turn OFF the 2 Fill Layers and the Snowman Layer :
- Merge Visible the Cutout and Outline Layers
- Rename to = 'Outline'
- Turn OFF the 'Outline' layer
Turn ON the Fill 1 &2 and Snowman Layers :
- Merge Visible
- Rename to = 'Snow'
- Turn ON the 'Outline' layer
8. Now you'll color in your 'snowfaces'
First Highlight your 'Snow' layer
- Open your Airbrush > reset back to full Hardness, Density, Opacity and Blend Mode = Normal
- Use White and what size suits you
- fill into the faces and mitts ..no need to do the scarves and hats, etc. *you can make the brush a soft 'hardness'.. then leave more of the snow showing at the face edges - to give a shadowing effect

- Highlight the 'Outline' layer
- Add a New Raster layer = named 'faces'
Again, adjust your Airbrush size to your liking, as you go .. use the color palette to switch between colors while bringing your snowballs to life
When you've got all your colors added :
- 'Faces' layer > Select All > Float
- Highlight the 'Outline' layer
- Hit DELETE at your keyboard
- Select None
9. Turn OFF the 'Outline' layer
- Highlight the 'Snow' layer
- Merge Visible the 'faces' and 'Snow' layer
- Turn 'Outline' layer ON
- *your outline layer should be above the snow layer

Highlight the top layer *outline
- Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise :
Open Animation Shop :
- Paste as a New Animation
- Return to PSP
- Undo till you remove the Noise Effect
- Apply Noise again > Change value to = 40
- Merge Visble
- Copy
- At AS > At 1st Frame = Right Click > Paste After Current Frame
- Return to PSP
- Undo till you remove the Noise Effect
- Apply Noise again > Change value to = 45
- Merge Visble
- Copy
- At AS > At 2nd Frame = Right Click > Paste After Current Frame
Play.. then run through Optimization Wizard :
