**At this time - this tut is only written for PSP9 since the picture tubes and their Scale and Other Settings information isn't compatible with other versions of PSP.

  • The Fire and Candles folder ~ you'll open these at Animation Shop
  • Ornaments and Tinsel folder ~ drop these to your PSP Picture Tubes folder
  • Fonts folder ~ open them and minimize
  • Open the raeHolidayRoom Layers at PSP
  • Open the Gold-CA pattern at PSP and minimize

Lamb, from PSP Tube Depot

has a multitude of lovely and lovingly-made Holiday tubes for you to download and use for your decorating

Find  Glass Ornaments, Stockings, *Foil Garland .. and much more

* be sure to read the Text File, included with the Garland.  It includes necessary directions

for your Picture Tube Settings.

Crimson used a very nice SuperBladePro preset at her text ~ it's perfect to set the text up a notch from the background.

It's 'm_goldensparkle'  ..  find it here >>  Meadow Studio.

See Crimson's tag at the bottom of this page! *it's gorgeous

Alrighty..  you'll find I've premade most of the tag supplies but you aren't being held to using only what I supply to you  .. feel free to add what you like - from what you have stored or what you may find on Google.

I've made three!! 'rooms' for you but if you'd like to make your own - the template I based mine on are at this site *Jaddell's Graphics* - filled with all sort and style of rooms.  They are very easy to make and decorate to your liking.  I used Room 49 - with much appreciation for her talents!

Also, since there are two trees (*one green and one flocked) and two mantlepieces (*green and flocked) .. you may want to Hold Shift and hit D on your keyboard - duplicating the layers image.  Then you can make two tags at the same time - both will look very different!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Open the 'HolidayRoomLayers'

  • turn On and OFF the Tree layers and the Flocked Mantlepiece, the Red & Green Room layers - choosing what combination you prefer
  • you aren't held to your choice yet..  you may change your mind at any time before you merge layers and prepare for AnimationShop

~*Make sure to remember that every decoration style you add to your tree or to the room should go on it's ~*Own Layer*~

If you use my Tree Topper - keep it above Frame4 layer ~ or use one of  your own

Now I'll lay out how to use the supplied tubes to decorate your tree

Ball Garland :

  • add a New Layer at your tree layer
  • Picture Tube tool > choose the 'raeGoldBead' / Picture Tube
  • to make ropes of garland - click and hold the mouse button down - then pull your garland around the tree
  • I made my example a bit smaller Scale - choose what you like, scale-wise
  • or you can click separately around the tree to use the bead as a ball ornament > again, change the Scale to your liking
  • use your eraser to take bits away, here and there, to make it appear natural on the tree (*not laying entirely overtop the branches)
  •

Ball Ornaments & the Tapered ornament:

  • at your chosen tree - add a New Layer
  • use your Picture Tube tool to add them one at a time - use the Scale size to adjust to your liking.
  • after you've placed your ornaments - use your eraser to lightly and haphazardly remove portions of each so that they don't stand out so much against the tree (*it will make them appear nestled into the needles)
  • adjust the transparency if they appear too bright

To Add Shimmering Tinsel :

  • your choice will be Where to add your Tinsel layer - my suggestion is to add it over the ornaments but for one or two layers...  If you have a few layers of ornaments - choose one or two to be under the tinsel..  the others overtop (you want to avoid a full pasted-over look.. to vary the layers gives dimension)
  • **it will be easier for you if you turn off your ornament and garland layers - before tinseling
  • Begin by clicking individually at the branch tips > to give that wonderful look of tinsel dangling from each.

  • then move to the inside area.  As with the garland > click and hold ..  and move your cursor.  The difference is that you'll want to zigzag..but break the line -  let off the mouse here and there to leave small spaces.   *let some of the branches peek out

  • Once you're satsified with your tinsel > you may also colorize it :

  • Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize (* be careful not to have the Saturation number too high or it can be pretty gawdy)

Glittering your tree :

  • this works nicely on the Flocked Tree - it's more subtle than the Tinsel
  • Highlight the Flocked Tree layer
  • Selections > Select All
  • Selections > Float
  • Add a New Raster Layer *you'll then be on the new layer while floating

Open your Airbrush with Color #F3F1F1 > use these settings and spray over your tree.  **Don't spray over the tree more than once or overlap too tightly - or you'll get a glitter that is too dense :

  • afterward > Select None *we'll animate it after you've finished with your text

OK.. by now you should have your tree decorated and your room color picked, your tree chosen, your mantle style chosen.

Now try one of the Frames I've made or make your own.

Next, you'll create your Text ..

I've included the Gold Pattern and two very pretty Script Fonts for you to use, if you like :

  • Select your Frame layer > Add a New Layer - name it 'Text'  > Duplicate that layer
  • enter your text   *you'll be on the 'Copy of Text'  layer
  • *I didn't use a Stroke value  ~ only used 'Background' at my Materials Palette ..  this will be an individual choice

The reason I have you make two layers for text is because you'll be adding a black Drop Shadow and it tends to 'muddy up' the text - so you'll add your shadow under your text.

At your text layer :

  • after you add your text and while it's floating > Highlight the 'Text' layer  (underneath)
  • add a Drop Shadow :

  • Select none
  • **note - that shadow is cast with the light from below and is appropriate for text placed at the top of the room.  If you add text to the bottom of the room - change the numbers at Vertical/Horizontal to 1 positive and the light will cast from above.  Yes, I'm a lil anal

Now that you have your text separate from the shadow - you are free to add an effect or SuperBlade Pro preset, to punch it up a little.  Or use a blend mode :

  • Duplicate your Text (*this alone will punch up the look of your text and may be enough for you)
  • at the Copy (2) layer > try a Blend Mode of Overlay (*if you used the Gold pattern I supplied - your text will now take on a bright, burnished gold shine)

Now highlight and Copy the Tinsel Layer or the Glitter Layer

If you chose to Glitter your tree (the airbrushed effect) :

  • Open Animation Shop > Paste your Glitter into the workspace
  • Effects > Insert Image Effect > Noise

Customize   >>

If you chose to Tinsel your tree (using the tinsel strands) :

  • Open Animation Shop > Paste your Tinsel into the workspace
  • Effects > Insert Image Effect > Noise *same as above/Insert Image Effect

Customize  >>

At either Animation :

  • Select Frame #1 > Edit > Delete

Return to PSP :

  • Turn OFF your Text Layer(s)
  • Turn OFF your Tree Topper Layer
  • Turn OFF your Frame Layer
  • Turn OFF the Ornament layer(s) you want overtop your Tinsel/Glitter
  • Turn OFF your Glitter or Tinsel Layer

  • Turn ON Snowfall1 layer

Merge Visible > pull the merged layer off into your workspace and drop it

Return to your room layers:

  • Undo to remove the Merge

  • Turn OFF Snowfall 1 layer
  • Turn ON Snowfall2
  • Merge > drag over to the previously dropped image *it will make it's own layer
  • Undo

  • Turn OFF Snowfall2
  • Turn ON Snowfall3
  • Merge > drag to the new layers
  • Undo

  • Turn OFF Snowfall 3
  • Turn ON Snowfall 4
  • Merge > drag to the new layers

File > Save As > Paint Shop Pro Image (.psp)

Now, Turn ON :

  • All Text, decoration layers(*those not Merged previously) and your Frame layer

  • Turn OFF the Merged layer

  • Merge Visible > Copy
  • Paste into your workspace at Animation Shop

At Animation Shop > Browse to open :

  • select the tree candle animation
  • Edit > Select All

  • Edit > Copy
  • Right Click at the room frames > Paste into Selected Frame
  • Align it precisely into place and click to set

Now, we'll set the animation speed :

  • Animation > Frame Properties > enter 15
  • play it and if you're happy, we'll Optimize and Save
  • You can resize now.. but if you make it too small - you'll lose so much of your lovely detail..  it's your masterpeice!  Celebrate it and 'be damned' the download time

At the Optimization Wizard :

**Note ~ if you set your text outside the frame - you'll want to adjust the color at Partial Transparency..  **if you have trouble with this ~ please ask for Help at Verve General!
