Written for PSP 9

This Tutorial will be more difficult to do in PSP 7 and 8 - since the capability to use the Directional Arrows/keyboard is limited in both - by using the Deformation Tool - it deselects your text.

Jasc tube used in the example * Modern Circles *

found in this Folder

1.  Open a large canvas - 600X500 transparent *wider if you need more room

Picture Tube = Modern Circles

  •   Click into your canvas - hold the click and run your cursor all around your canvas, placing circles :

Now, we'll pop the color a bit more.

Duplicate the layer > change the Blend Mode at the copy layer to 'Overlay'

  • Merge Visible those layers
  • Duplicate it again

  • At the Copy = Image > Flip  ..  Image > Mirror
  • Rename the layer to 'Up'
  • Rename the original layer to 'Down'

  • At the 'Up' layer = change Blend Mode to Difference

2.  Highlight your 'Up' layer and Open your Text Tool :

*my font choice is 'FSO Revenge of Zany'

  • Enter your text with a Background (text outline) color of your choice.. Foreground > Null

  • Create As Vector > Then use the nodes to pull your text to the size you want
  • Convert to Raster

Add a New Raster layer

  • Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom.. or pull it down the layer palette

  • Section Tool > Rectangle = draw a selection around your text
  • Flood fill with black *or play around with colors/gradients

I have you draw a selection since, if you use a gradient - you'll be able to keep the light and dark areas and the colors used - closer and part of your text background

..draw selection   & flood fill

  • Select None

3.  Open your Magic Wand

  • Text layer > wand outside the letters outlines
  • Hold the Shift key > wand inside the letter openings in 'A, B, D, E, etc'
  • Selections > Modify > Expand by 1

While selected > highlight the background fill layer > hit Delete at your keyboard

  • Keep Selection active > highlight at each Circles (UP & Down) layer > Delete
  • Merge Visible
  • Keep selection active

  • Grab the Merged layer and drag off, into your workspace, and drop it = to make a new image

  • Return to your work canvas
  • Undo till all circles return, at each Up and Down layer, to fill the canvas
  • Keep selection active through all steps

4.  Open your Mover Tool

  • Select the Up layer (at palette)
  • Hold Shift > Click into the canvas > keep your cursor at the canvas
  • Move to your Directional Arrows at your keyboard
  • Click Up twice

  • Select the Down layer
  • Hold Shift > Click into the canvas > keep your cursor at the canvas
  • Move to your Directional Arrows at your keyboard
  • Click Down Twice
  • Select Each Up and Down layer (at palette) > hit the Delete key

  • Merge visible *keep selection active
  • Drag the merged layer over to the new canvas *it will make another layer

  • Undo to return all the circles back to your Up and Down layers *just until they reappear to fill the canvas

Now repeat the above steps.. Holding the Shift key with your Mover tool & clicking into the canvas..  clicking Up at the directional arrow keys and Down twice each, deleting, etc

  • Continue until you count 14 Raster layers at your New canvas.

  • Save the 14 Raster layers as a Paint Shop Pro Image (*.psp)

5.  Open Animation Shop > browse to open your saved layers

  • Click into Frame#2 > Hold the Shift key > Scroll to Frame#13 and click to select that series of frames

  • Edit > Copy

  • Click into Frame#14 > Right click > Paste After Current Frame

  • Animation > Reverse Frames

Select Frame#1

  • Animation > Frame Properties > enter 15

Select Frame#14

  • Animation > Frame Properties > enter 15

  • Play your animation

If you are happy with it.. you're done!
