Open the 'Weave' Pattern at PSP

*Go to Your Documents/My PSP Files (or make a Folder named My PSP Files - make new folders, there, for your various PSP sub-folders) > Picture Tubes > File > Add a New Folder = named 'Embroidery' > Add the Stitch Files to that Embroidery Folder

At PSP = Picture Tube - Open the drop down menu and select the Embroidery Folder (remember to point to this folder via Preferences)

Ok, I'll start this tut with instruction to make the tag with an embroidery hoop (shown in the Sheep tag).  If you want, you can make your tag with the fabic-only edging, as we did in the ''Im In Stitches (01)" tutorial.  *note - I've left off adding an adjustment screw with the hoop - thinking it may be distracting.  You are welcome to add one* (besides that - it was a job, in itself, to make the needle!)

1.  Open a large, transparent canvas .. mine is 600 X 400.

Preset Shape tool > Choose Circle, Elipse, Rounded Rectangle or your choice > pull out your Shape :

2.  Magic Wand inside the hoop shape :

3.  Add a New Raster > Duplicate

At the 'Copy of' layer :

4.  Add a New Raster Layer > pull it under/to the bottom at your Layer Palette :

Highlight the 'Merged' layer :

5.  Add a New Layer >  again - move it to the bottom

You'll see that the fringe color is too dark = we'll get it to match the fabric :

Much better!

6.  Add a New Layer > named 'Text'

Now you'll want to get your fonts, dings, shapes, etc together.  I suggest you add a layer for the text, another for a ding, and another for any other shape, ding or font used.  Name them as you need to.

Color isn't important - the font layers are a template for your stitches. We'll be deleting them later.

Create your text layers 'as Vector' to allow any shaping needed.

Use the Linestyle = Diamond   ..   Stroke Width = 2

 or try Linestyle =  Opposing Arrowheads-Overlap  ..   Stroke Width = 1

*it will give your text and dings, etc. a 'stitched' edge appearance, as if sewn into your fabric ..  you'll have to experiment with the Linestyles - one will work better than the other, depending on the the font, etc.

Once you have applied all your text, etc. ** Reset your Linestyle :

  • Text Tool > add any letter in your text entry window
  • Highlight it in the window
  • Change your Linestyle back to 'Solid'
  • Enter the text onto your canvas
  • Undo
  • Now your text should be back to applying with Solid Linestyle

7.  Preparing for your Embroidery :

** you'll be adding lots of new layers = one for each set of stitching.  You'll not need to name them - just add a new layer every time you change stitches/colors

To locate a certain layer of stitching on your canvas :

  • Open your Mover Tool and click into the stitches

The Mover Tool will highlight that layer at your Layer Palette

**if you find you don't like a layer of stitches for whatever reason - you can use the Mover to find it and DELETE at your keyboard and Redo the stitches

***Open the Stitch Samples from the Supply to see how they look.. *note - they are shown at 100%

Picture Tube Tool > choose any of the 'raeCrewel' stitches

We'll hide your marqee so you'll not have those ants buggin ya :

Click into your chosen area of the text > hold the click and run the stitching around - mostly to get all portions covered :

If, at any time, you see you've stitched into your text layer.. don't Undo :

If you use 'raeSatinStich01' :

**Here is an example of how to play with your stitching and create change, depth, etc. with the same stitch :

I filled the sheep with White - Scale 60

8.  Once you've got your stitches as you like :

9.  Nearly finished!  We'll add the final touch :

Now we'll add a Thread for the Needle :

Pen will create it's own layer :

Now.. one more New Layer for the Drop Shadow *thread only - the needle has one built in :

thanks for trying this *wordy* tut!  .. have fun playing with ideas for the stitches/embroidery.. there are far too many to cover here!!

show us what you've created!!
