I've supplied the font at my tags = 'Beyond Wonderland.ttf'
.. Most Art Deco fonts will work - find a large assortment Here
1. PSP = Open 'raeArtDecoFade layers'
2. View and Download 'raeFlourishes.mng' ..* Here *.. = Open at Animation Shop
3.
At PSP :
- Turn Lady and Corner layers On and Off = selecting a combination of Lady and Corner for your final tag.
-
~or~
- If you want to do the 'street scene' tag = Turn on the StreetScene layer and decide between Corners to decorate.
Adding text :
- Highlight 'Lady5' layer
-
- Text Tool = Create as Vector {so you can adjust size) .. for the tag I'll be making - I'm using Size 65
-
- I'll be using 'Beyond Wonderland. ttf '
-
- Adjust Kerning as needed = mine is 0
My Material Palette :
Apply your text and position, using the center handle.
Here's mine .. positioned by using the center node :
- If your text is too long = resize, using the sides/top/bottom vector nodes
**don't Convert to Raster .. you may need to adjust it again
4. Now.. this is where you'll decide which works better for you = as far as adding flourishes to your text and deciding on what combination looks good :
- You can go to AS = copy the first frame of a flourish = return to PSP = Paste as a New Layer = then Duplicate/Flip/Mirror..etc.
-
- **keep note of what Flourish you have and what you've done with it, as far as 'Duplicate/Flip/Mirror/Resize.. etc. You'll have to do the same to your Flourish frames at AS.
-
- When you find a pleasing design = Merge Visible > Copy > Paste to AS as a New Animation .. and use it as a guide
-
- Return to PSP
-
- Undo the Merge
- *Delete any Flourishes you've added
-
- Add a Drop Shadow to your Text Layer :

- ~ or you can ~
- Add the drop shadow to your text and design your tag flourishes at AS = Mirroring/Flipping/Resizing, etc. there
However you decide to design your tag = it will look best if you keep the flourishes inside the bordered area.
5. Ok.. You've added a drop shadow to your text.. you've deleted any flourishes you added :
- Copy your Text
- Paste to AS
Return to PSP :
- Delete or Turn OFF your text
- Merge Visible
- Copy
- Paste to AS
If you are doing the Street Scene tag = Do Not Merge - Copy the Street Scene layer
- Paste to AS
Return to PSP : - Delete or Turn OFF = 'Card' layer
- Delete or Turn OFF = 'StreetScene' layer
- Merge Visible = 'Border' and your choice 'Deco Corner'
- Copy
- Paste to AS

6. Animation Shop ~
Select your Text frame :
- Duplicate to 2 frames
- Select Frame #2
- Effects > Insert Image Transition > Blinds :
- Animation > Reverse Frames
- Select Frame #11 > Delete/Cut
-
- Select Frame #1
- Effects > Insert Image Transition > Blinds :
7. Select your card background w/lady (undecorated with flourishes & text) ~or~ your street scene background (undecorated) :
- Duplicate to 2 frames
- Select Frame #2
- Animation > Insert Frames > Empty :
8. If you made a guide with flourishes at PSP.. bring it up now.. set it so that you can see both it and your 19 tag frames.
Copy your Text frames :
- Right click > Paste Into Selected frame
At your Flourish frames/animations :
- Edit > Select All
- Mirror/Flip as necessary
- Copy > Paste Into Selected Frame
**If you're making the StreetScene tag = Skip, now, to Step 9.. there's more to do
After adding all your Flourishes and to a 'Lady' tag :
- Animation > Frame Properties > Display Time = 12
-
- Select Frame #1
- Animation > Frame Properties > Display Time = 150
***If you've made a 'Lady' tag = Skip, now, to Step #11 for Optimization
9. Continuing with the Street Scene animation ~
- Select Frame #1 > Duplicate
Now, Select Frame #2 :
- Animation > Insert Frames > Empty :
- Edit > Select All
-
- Effects > Apply Image Effect > Scratches
**You can leave it as it is and skip, now, to Step #11 .. or do Step #10 to add dirt/dust and make it look like actual film
10. Ok.. this is sort of fun!
Get your Eyedropper Tool and click into a dark portion of shadow, here :
Zoom out at your 40 frames to 1:5 or 1:6
Open your Paintbrush Tool.. set the Width to 2
- randomly, throughout all 40 frames = place lots of dots
- one, two, or four dots at a time per whatever frame = make sure to go into corners and along the sides
-
- jump around from frame to frame.. haphazardly
-
- **it helps to have the animation 'playing'.. as you go along and see a dot or whatever that you don't like.. just Undo till it it's gone
-
- then every once in awhile.. add a small 'squiggle' .. to look like lint or a scratch
-
- pop your brush Width to 3 .. add more dots
-
- finally.. when you think you're about finished.. set the Width to 6 or 8 and add a few large dots.. *just a few!
Finally = bring up your 'border/corners image' :
At your 40 frames :
- Edit > Select All
- Edit > Propagate Paste
-
- Right click and 'Paste Into Selected Frame' = your border/corners
Now .. set the frame speed :
- Animation > Frame Properties > Delay Time = 16
11. You're near finished!
It can't hurt to Resize = try 80% Bicubic (*now you want it Sharp.. so don't use SmartSize)
File > Optimization Wizard :
wow.. I know this was a Thinker and a Stinker!.. we'd Love to see how yours came out!
