*be warned - the file is large and will take some time to download.. sorry 'bout that, especially to you with Dial-up
I've saved you a lot of work by making the tag base and the smokey animation. It wasn't my initial intention to do that, but became a choice I made for you when I realized how difficult it would be to explain it all....
.. besides, you deserve an easier tut, now and then!
So.. here we go
*Ü*
Open the font 'deFaced' and minimize
1. Open the GraveSpook tag base at Animation Shop.
- copy one frame and Paste As A New Image at PSP
2. Open your Text Tool > Create as Vector > font-deFaced > size 72
*it will create it's own layer
- Foreground > Null
- Background > Gradient > Fading White :
- Enter your text > ALL CAPS
- If your name is too long > use the Vector side nodes to bring your text in *Create as Vector assures no loss of quality as you resize it
- You'll want your text to be set into the horizontal center of the grave dirt
- Convert to Raster
- Duplicate your text layer Twice (for a total of three layers)
- At the initial layer > slide the transparency to 20
- At the second layer - slide the transparency to 60
- Leave the third at 100
3. Now, we have to add a rectangle - so your dragged and dropped layers will fall into place correctly. *We'll remove it later
- Open your Preset Shapes Tool > Rectangle
- Width > 2 or 3
- Foreground > any color
- Background > Null
- draw a rectangle to just above your name and to the sides of your name.. leave as much room around your name as possible, especially at the bottom :
- Now Turn OFF the Grave layer, the Text transparency 60% and 100% layers
- Merge Visible the 20% transparency Text and the Vector Rectangle
- At your layer palette > Left click on the Merged layer > Hold > Drag it off into your workspace > Release the mouse to Drop > the layer will make it's own Image *you'll be dropping your remaining text layers and 9 smudged layers there
4. Return to your grave tag base :
- Undo the Merge
- DELETE the 20% Text
- Turn ON the 60% Text
- Merge Visible > drag and drop into the text canvas
- Undo the Merge
- DELETE the 60% Text layer
- Turn ON the 100% Text
- Merge Visible > drag and drop into the text canvas
- Undo the Merge
5. At the 100% Text layer > Open your Smudge Tool
- Turn ON your grave base layer
Now, pick a spot to funnel your text into
- place your smudge outline as shown - it's very 'soft-edged' so you'll be pulling just the bottom of your text toward the funnel spot
- You're going to need 9 frames for your funneled text > don't overdo the initial smudges > I'll screenshot each step so you can guage your own
this is the basic plan of attack > I'll be working up these lines, from the bottom at first.. then grabbing from the top as I save the frames.
**as you finish your smudge > push in, as well, from outside - just to push any stray stray remnants (that you may not even be able to see but they'll fog up your animation) closer to your funnel
Here are each of my nine frames - create yours as we go :
1.
- After your smudge > Turn OFF the base (grave)
- Merge Visible *the Vector Rectangle and your text
-
2. Return to your tag base
- Undo > to remove the Merge
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- Turn OFF base > Merge visible
- Drag & Drop layer over to the first smudge
3. Undo
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- Turn OFF base > Merge visible
- Drag & Drop layer to the text frames
4. Undo
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- Turn OFF base > Merge visible
- Drag & Drop layer to the text frames
5. Undo
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- Turn OFF base > Merge visible
- Drag & Drop layer to the text frames
6. Undo
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- **At this point, start nudging from under your 'spot' at the end of your funnel > you'll have a slight amount of residue there from your previous smudging > you can use the smudge to push it up toward your entry point to the dirt, virtually erasing it
- Turn OFF base > Merge visible
- Drag & Drop layer to the text frames
7. Undo
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- **again, pay attention to creating a 'point' at the spot you chose to have it enter the dirt
- Turn OFF base > Merge visible
- Drag & Drop layer to the text frames
8. Undo
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- **again, pay attention to creating a 'point' at the spot you chose to have it enter the dirt
- Turn OFF base > Merge visible
- Drag & Drop layer to the text frames
9. Undo
- Turn the base ON
- smudge again
- **again, pay attention to maintaining your entry point
Now, at your 12 text layers :
- Open your Crop Tool
- crop inside of the rectangle - crop as close as possible to the rectangle edges, making sure not to include any of the rectangle. **You want to cut close to the rectangle lines, especially at the bottom edge - so that you won't crop off any of your smudging that is hard to see
Save As a .psp image
6. Return to Animation Shop
- Browse to open your 12 frames .psp image
- select Frame #3
- Effects > Insert Image Transition > Morph :
Then click 'Customize' .. don't be afraid of this! ..it's really easy :
- At the 'Start' screen
- Hover your mouse over an intersection of the lines and then grab/pull that puppy
- grab another one or more and do it again *make note of which nodes you moved and the direction. The smaller screen at the top/right shows the nodes you morphed at the previous screen.
- Here is a very easy example, but feel free to get wild! :
Now, choose 'End' and reverse your corners :
You may also choose the 'Increase Points' to have more nodes to pull - which is a good option if you have a longer name or want to get really involved in your morphing.
You won't really see how cool yours turned out until you go through the next few steps to paste it and reverse back to normal and then Play It. **if you don't like it? 'Undo' to remove the ani from your grave tag, Undo your text ani back to 12 Frames.. and try again.
Then 'Reset' at Morph to remove your previous settings.. **if you played with the Fade and Warp settings, you'll have to enter the values again
7. Select Frame #40 > Right click > Duplicate > 5 times *watch your frame count at the bottom status bar. You'll want it to reach 54 Frames :
- Edit > Select All
- Animation > Reverse Frames *we're reversing because you can't see where to place your text, otherwise, with the first frame faded to 20%
- Edit > Copy
8. Now, at your Grave Animation (.psp image)
- Edit > Select All
- Animation > Reverse Frames
- Edit > Propagate Paste
- Right Click into a frame > Paste Into Selected Frame
- Remember approximately where your 'spot' was and Left click to place the animation
- Now, we'll reverse the frames again :
- Animation > Reverse Frames
Play your new creation! If you're happy with your text placement, all you need to do before Optimizing is to
- Resize > 85% Bicubic
- set the Animation Speed :
- Make sure ALL frames are still selected
- Animation > Frame Properties > Enter 8
Optimize : Customize Tab
- 255 colors
- Optimized Median Cut
- Nearest Color
Optimization Tab
Partial Transparency Tab
- Convert Pixels less than 48
- Blend with this color - the second lightest grey at your palette #C0C0C0
