Gradients, Bubble tube, Straw, and the Bug used in the example are
found in this Folder
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Open a New Canvas - at least 600 X 400 *wider if your text is lengthy -
Open your Text Tool > *I used font 'Loveladies Pro' Lovev2p.ttf > Create as Vector
Or ~ use Mountain Dew - other than Cola ** see Crimson's tag at the bottom of this tut!
2. Enter your text.
If it's wider than your canvas - you can adjust it other than widen your canvas and your final tag.
-
Now adjust the nodes Vertically
-
-
Browse to open your Straw > Copy > Paste as a New Layer over the text > Rename that layer to 'Straw'
-
-
Use the Deformation Tool to tip the straw into a letter > also to lessen the length, if needed
-
-
Stretch the Window to find the nodes > to adjust the straw length
I tipped mine so that it appears to rest against the edge and shortened the length. You will want to keep in mind that the straw bottom should remain inside the gradient area .. the text outline portion is to mimic 'glass'
Now is time to make sure you have your vector text just the size you want. You'll want to be committed by the next step.
3. At your Text layer > Open your Magic Wand with these settings ;
- Click into the background
- Selections > Invert
- Selections > Modify > Contract by 1
-
- Now, Add a New Raster Layer > Rename it 'Glass'
- Flood Fill with 'Glass' gradient
- Select none
-
- Grab the 'Glass' layer and pull it under the 'Text' layer - at your Layer Palette
If you are using the Cola gradient :
- DUPLICATE the 'Text' layer (with the cola gradient)
-
- Pull the Copy to the top of your Layer Palette
-
- DUPLICATE again
- Change the Blend Mode, at Both Copies, to 'Overlay' > also at the 'Straw' layer
If you are using the Mountain Dew gradient :
- No Duplications needed
- But = Be sure to change the Blend Mode at the 'Straw' layer to Overlay
**This is optional ** here is the EC 3 zip
If you'd like to add a Glass effect, to the 'Glass' layer, using EyeCandy 3.1 > here are the settings I used :
- I, then, DUPLICATED the 'Glass' layer > changed the 'copy of' Blend Mode to 'Multiply'
Here are the Before *without Glass : and After *with Glass/Duplicated/Blend Mode-Multiply :
4. Time for Bubbles!
**Because the bubbles are clear and hard to see against your grid - I'll have you make a New Raster layer.
-
Drag it to the bottom of your Layer Palette and fill it with any dark color *it won't be a part of your tag.
-
Then drop the transparency so that you can see the grid underneath.
-
-
Highlight your 'Straw' layer
-
-
Add a New Raster Layer > name it 'SmallBubbles'
-
Add another > name it 'LargeBubbles'
Open your Picture Tube Tool :
-
Highlight the 'LargeBubbles' layer
-
-
Click into the very top of the canvas > choosing a line on the grid
-
-
Hold Shift and click at the very bottom > on the same line as your first click
-
-
Copy that strand of bubbles > Right click > Paste as a New Selection
-
-
Continue pasting as new selection across your canvas > varying the placement so that the bubbles don't exactly match horizontally
5. Change the settings at your Picture Tube :
-
Highlight 'Small Bubbles' layer
-
-
Click at the top / over a strand of your large bubbles > Hold the Click > run a strand of bubbles, gently, in and out of the larger bubbles, to the bottom :
**you may want to turn off many layers and pop up the color on your background - so you can see what you're doing
-
When you get a pleasing strand > Copy it > Paste as a New Selection across your 'Small Bubbles' layer > varying the placement so they don't exactly match, horizontally
-
-
Make a choice, after you've pasted across the canvas = when to Image > Mirror one of your pastes *after you've pasted and while it's still an active selection
-
-
Copy it again > Paste as a New Selection > intertwine the strands, as well
6. Your Layer Palette should look like this : *remember I have added a glass effect - so have an extra Glass' layer :
If you're making Mountain Dew = try this to make your bubbles pop a bit against the color, if you like :
We're ready to begin making your frames for animation.
Open your Magic Wand with these settings :
**I set the Tolerance = High, to grab all bands of the gradient. If a portion doesn't select - just continue to hold Shift and click into it. You're only selecting the inside of each letter - not the outline.
-
Selections > Invert
-
-
Highlight the 'LargeBubbles' layer > Hit DELETE at your keyboard
-
Highlight the 'SmallBubbles' layer > Hit DELETE
-
Highlight the background color layer > Hit DELETE
-
Merge Visible > *Keep Active Selection running
-
-
Grab the Merged layer at your Palette > Drag off into your workspace and Drop > it will make it's own canvas
-
-
Return to your Work Canvas and Undo > until all bubbles return to fill the canvas > *Keep Active Selection running
7. Open your Mover Tool :
-
Highlight the 'LargeBubbles' layer
-
Hold Shift > Click into the canvas > Keep your cursor over the canvas
-
Let go of Shift > Directional Arrows / keyboard > Click the UP arrow 5 times
-
-
Highlight the 'SmallBubbles' layer
-
Hold Shift > Click into the canvas > Keep your cursor over the canvas
-
Continue to Hold Shift > Click the UP arrow Once *moving the bubbles up 10 pixels in one click
-
-
Keyboard/DELETE at Both Bubbles layers and at the background color
-
-
Merge Visible > let Active Selection run
-
-
Drag Merged layer over to your New Canvas and Drop > it makes it's own layer
-
-
Undo just until all bubbles fill your canvas
-
Repeat the above = Moving the large bubbles 5 clicks UP .. the small bubbles Shift/1 click UP.. Deleting and Merging, etc.
8. Browse to Open and play at Animation Shop. It should be good to go! **if you stop here - change the Frame Speed for the animation to 15
I'll add, following, the Bug Burp animation instruction. If you don't want to add the bug - skip down to Step 12 for the Optimization.
9. At Animation Shop > Open the 'Bugs.psp image'
Judge whether the bug is on the right angle to place along your straw ..it doesn't have to be Perfect - but if it needs to be adjusted
Begin with a small increment .. if it needs more > Undo and add a higher increment
At your Text Frames :
-
Edit > Select All
-
Edit > Copy
-
Left click into Frame #1 > Right click > Paste Before Selected Frame
-
Repeat that Paste into Frame #1 until you have a total of 25 frames
-
View > Onionskin > Enable
At your Bugs :
At your Text Frames :
-
Leftt click into Frame #3 > Hold Shift > Left click Frame #4
-
Right click > Paste into Selected Frame > Using the Onionskin to position the bug butt, over the previous, like this :
10. Now to add Bug-talk
Grab a frame from your animation.. one with the bug in it - so you'll have a guide image for the text. I took one with the bug half up the straw :
- Paste as a New Image at PSP
- Add a New Raster Layer
- Text Tool > Floating > Comic Sans > Size..enter 7 .. Foreground Null .. Background Black.. Adjust the Kerning to around +25
- Enter text
- Select None
- Duplicate the text to three layers
- Adjust the transparencys as shown
- Turn OFF the Image layer *the text and straw, etc.
- Crop to your tiny text
- Save as a .psp image
-
- Undo to remove the Crop
- DELETE the three tiny text layers
- Turn ON the Image layer
- Add a New Raster and add what other text you want
- Follow the step above > Duplicating and dropping transparencys, cropping, saving, etc.
- Return to Animation Shop
11. Open your tiny text files at AS
12. Finally! ..you're ready to sew this puppy up
Edit > Select All :
- Animation > Frame Properties .. change the speed to 15
Consider adding an Opaque background to ease up on the kb's after Optimization
- Animation > Animation Properties > Opaque - choose a color
Optimization Wizard > Customize Tab > Colors = Optimized Octree / Nearest Color
Optimizations Tab > I checked everything
Save your optimized tag and show us what you've made!
I do hope you had fun ..learned a thing or two.. and now we'd love to see your creation
