Flood Fill with #FCCD12 = Opacity at Tool Settings
Select None
Change the Blend Mode to 'OVERLAY'
DUPLICATE the 'Fireglow' layer
5. Time to add your Name to the pot!
Text Tool = font 'Troubled Genius'
* You don't need to be concerned over placement right now..just get your letters on the layer = the black area above the pot is a good spot
** Adjust the text Size if you have a long name
*** add a Space between each letter as you enter it into your Text Window = you'll want room to Select around each when putting them into the pot
Add an Inner Bevel (Effects > 3D > Inner Bevel) :
Select None
6. Selection Tool = Rectangle :
Select one letter at a time and put them into the pot ..stagger the positions
* it can be of help to Select around each, Click into the selection to 'float' it, then Promote to layer at the Layer Palette = afterward, click each at the canvas with your Mover tool to select and move it
here's mine :
when satisfied = Select None
Now, we'll erase at the bottom of each, to remove the hard edge and the 'outline' :
Eraser Tool = settings :
Erase off the bottom edge = making a rounded shape (it need not be perfectly round)
*adjust the Size of the eraser if your letters are too close to each other and on the same layer
7. Now.. add a couple of Eyes of Newt!
Put each on it's own layer = so that you can move a layer below the 'text' and have the eye at the back of the pot
*I'll caution you not to add too many eyes = you'll need to have room for your 'bubbling'
Erase off the bottom third of each eyeball = so that they 'sink' into the brew
**round off the bottoms
here's mine :
8. Now, we'll add 'pooling' at each letter and eye :
Retouch Tool = 'Lighten/Darken'
Highlight the 'Merged' layer (*the bottom-most layer with the cauldron/liquid) :
This setting is to 'Darken'
Gently swab in a soft arc at the base of each letter and eye
Then = uncheck the 'Swap Mouse Buttons' to add a soft arc with 'Lighten' in the same way :
9. Now it's time to add what text you like to the black area above the pot = this is how I made mine :
First..make your own Bezier Curve above the pot = or use > mine *It's all ready to go. Just copy it and Paste to your canvas = it will retain it's Vector properties (I hope!) ** move it to above your pot/center
Font used 'Jaunty.ttf'
create as : Vector .. center justify
font size is relative to what you're adding.. I used Size 20
Foreground = Null
Background = Gradient > 'Foreground/Background' .. using these colors from our previous text :
Text tool = hover your cursor over the center of the vector line until you see the A symbol ..then click and enter your text
= if you want your gradient to fill each letter with the yellow and the red :
Open the Vector Layer by clicking on the + at the Layer Palette
Turn OFF the 'New Path' ..*which is the bezier curve
Right click @ the Alayer .. *with the text/quote
= Convert Text to Curves > As Character Shapes * notice that the gradient now fills each letter with both colors
Use the Mover Tool to position your text
**I also used the Object Selector Tool to 'stretch upward' the text.. just a half inch or so
Now..if you're happy with your text :
Crop your image = cutting half the pot-bottom off
10. Here's how to add a simple two-tone frame :
Highlight the bottom-most layer
Selections > Select All > Float
Selections > Modify > Contract = 6
Selections > Invert
*keep selected
Add a New Raster layer = named 'Frame'
Flood Fill with the red-orange of your text colors
Select None
Highlight the bottom-most layer
Selections > Select All > Float
Selections > Modify > Contract = 3
Selections > Invert
*keep selected
Highlight the Frame layer
Flood Fill with the red-orange of your text colors
Select None
11. Select your Pointer tool :
Right click into the canvas = 'Copy Merged'
Paste to Animation Shop
Return to PSP :
Turn OFF one of the 'FireGlow' layers
Right click canvas = 'Copy Merged'
AS = 'Paste After Current Frame'
AniShop :
Edit > Select All
Edit > Copy
Zoom Out once
Select Frame #1 = 'Paste Before Current Frame'
Continue on selecting Frame #1(only) > 'Paste Before...' = to reach 24 frames total
12. Open the 'raeCauldronBubbles' .mng file :
Edit > Select All
Edit > Copy
*Turn ON 'Onionskin = this will give you a 'ghost effect' at your frames, so that you can guage where to place your new bubbles. The hardest part of this is to try not to place bubbles on top of each other..and to vary the placement around the bowl, as well as the size of your bubbles throughout the frames
**Note that the Bubbles are reversed. This is so that you'll place them into your frames = with the largest of the bubble ani first, so that you'll see best where to place it. We'll reverse your animation later = so that the bubbles pop as they should
We'll begin with the Full-size bubbles :
Select Frame #1
Scroll ahead 5 frames = to frame #6
Holding Shift .. Click frame #6
Now all are selected
Right click > 'Paste Into Current Frame'
Place your bubble
Now.. Highlight Frame #2 :
Scroll ahead 5 frames ..Hold Shift and click ..paste your bubble in a new spot
Next time .. you might select Frame #4.. and select the next 5 frames..
Etc, etc. until you've pasted your large bubble in most of the frames
**here's a tip = The selected frame will be right in front. Use the scroll arrow and click it 5 times. The frame right in front, now, will be the 6th and the one you need to click while holding Shift. It's a time saver for animation-building like this :
< click 5 times
If you are satisfied with the number and placement of your large bubbles :
Resize the 6 Bubbles.mng = 75% Bicubic
Repeat the pastes, as before
**Make sure to have bubbles in the 24th frame = or it will look weird and interrupt the final animation
When finished with those :
Undo the Resize at your Bubbles.mng
Resize, again, to 55% *I have you Undo..then Resize = so that a double resize won't degrade the bubbles
Paste them in, as before.. *but this time = since they're smaller = you can add them more than once with each series of frames and into places where the larger bubbles wouldn't fit
Once you're finished :
Edit > Select All
Animation > Reverse Frames
Play it ! .. If you like to add more, undo the Reverse first.
If you'd like to add text to above the pot :
return to PSP and Add a New layer to your canvas
add your text and Paste it to AS
Copy
Select All your cauldron frames
Edit > Propagate Paste
Paste your text into your animation
Crop to your satisfaction .. Resize if you like
Optimization Wizard = I had best results using Optimized Octree/Median Cut
